Have ever wondered exactly what the Appleton American Legion Post 38 does?

Well, the answer is A LOT!!! Especially for our veterans and their families. Sadly, there is this misconception Legionnaires just sit around telling sea or cock and bull stories, but that isn’t the case. At Post 38 we are so much more than that, and we are looking for new members to join our Post 38 family. Come and check us out at one of our monthly meetings held on the 1st Monday of the month (aside from holidays). We have a Post social gathering prior to the meeting from 5:30pm through 6:20pm, which usually consists of a light meal offering. Our meetings begin promptly at 6:30pm.

Are you a member of another Post, but looking for something more and rewarding? No problem! We will welcome you with open arms. Come join the “Cool Kids on the Block” by transferring your membership to the Appleton American Legion Post 38 family. Maybe you’ve moved back to the area, we can transfer you into our Post as well. Your membership transfer also counts towards our goal, so we welcome anyone looking for a new home.

REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE AMERICAN LEGION (BY CATEGORY)

IMPORTANT: EVERYONE MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF
DD 214 OR DISCHARGE.

NEW MEMBERSHIP

Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to Post Membership Committee:

1. Complete American Legion Membership application: Click here

2 Print two (2) completed copies. Keep one copy for your records. Mail the other copy to address below along with your membership dues payment in the amount of $60.00. Applications are also available at the Post. Speak with our Adjutant, Dave Baumann for a membership application if submitting in person.

** Multi-year options are available: Choosing this option voids potential dues increases.

3. COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE

TRANSFERS

1. Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to our Post must submit the following:

                                 a. Completed Member Data Form.
                                 b. COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE
                                 c. COPY OF MEMBERSHIP CARD

2. If you are not a paid up member, membership dues payment are required at the time of transfer enrollment. If current dues are paid, please pay dues for next year's membership.

MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILTY TO JOIN

Thanks to the LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service Act) signed into law on July 30, 2019, the current eligibility period is Dec. 7, 1941, to the present, and includes the current war campaigns.

Previously, there were seven declared war periods. Now there are two: the current war period dating back to World War II and another covering World War I. No other restrictions to American Legion membership have changed.
