About the Scarlet Guard
In 1983 following that year's Appleton Flag Day Parade, some select members of the Appleton American Legion Post 38 established the Scarlet Guard Color Guard to represent the Post's color guard. Since its inception, the Scarlet Guard American Legion Color Guard has transitioned to have memberships open to members of any American Legion Post, American Legion Auxiliary Unit, or Sons of the American Legion Squadron.
The mission of the Scarlet Guard American Legion Color Guard is to Honor the Colors and Promote Patriotism while acting as a showcase unit that upholds the standards and image of the American Legion family. Examples of activities that the Scarlet Guard American Legion Color Guard supports include:

Marching in parades

Post and retrieve the colors at various ceremonies.

Present the colors at various community events, school programs, sporting events, and more.
