WHY JOIN THE AMERICAN LEGION?

Those who have joined the American Legion are veterans who found purpose, camaraderie, and support through The American Legion. They come to realize they are not alone in their journeys. They come to recognize the American Legion as a place that is welcoming of all people, regardless of their military or personal backgrounds. For many of our members, it is a place of belonging, a brotherhood or sisterhood that cannot be found anywhere else.  Members of The American Legion are passionate about helping others in the communities in which they live. Many times, members of The American Legion we are the only family some of our veterans have. When you become a member of this organization, there is a mutual understanding that we exist for not only one another, but also for our community, other veterans and their families. 

By joining, Legionnaires have a strong voice in our nation's capital. Why? Because the American Legion is the LARGEST Service organization. The American Legion is a place for advocacy, they are your voice at the State and National leve. The American Legion assists in helping veterans to secure easy access to VA benefits assistance. Additionally, as a member, you will receive a subscription to the American Legion Magazine to keep you in the loop. WE NEED YOU!

We are veterans just like you. We care about America, our fellow veterans, our families and our children. As a member of Appleton American Legion Post 38, we continue to serve God, Country and our Community. Our Post needs you now.

Our Legionnaires participate in a variety of community activities such as parades, memorials, dedications, and advisory boards just to name a few. 

Our Scarlet Guard Color Guard and our Funeral Honor Guard stand ready, willing and able to provide service and support at a family's request. Our Funeral Detail is available to all veterans. When requested, we are also available to help other veteran organizations with their memorials. Our Scarlet Guard Color Guard is known throughout the Fox Valley area and provides support in parading the colors at a variety of local sporting events and for holiday memorials.

We sponsor local students who participate in Boys State and Boys Nation; we sponsor our own scholarship program to eligible children and grandchildren of American Legion members in good standing to better educate our children while imparting the values of Americanism and Patriotism. 

Maybe you have a buddy who is in one of the VA hospitals; their war wounds and/or time have taken its toll on their body. Maybe he or she is a young veteran, just discharged from service in the Gulf War, Bosnia, Afghanistan or Iraq, and is having difficulty finding a civilian job. Maybe your buddy is just an ordinary person as yourself, wanting to share stories and comradeship with someone who was in a similar situation.
